The North Carolina Child Support Council Scholarship in the amount of $1000 that I received in the spring of 2000 was used to help pay my fall tuition at UNC- Wilmington. I really love attending UNC-W and my freshman year has been wonderful. I am planning to major in Business Administration.

My mother is a high school math teacher and I have a brother that is currently in the tenth grade. She only gets $225 per month in child support from our father. I received one other local scholarship in the amount of $500 last year and a small grant from UNC-W. The $1000 that I received from the NC Child Support Council meant that I could decrease my student loan by $1000. I am most appreciative for this scholarship and when I received notification last spring that I had been awarded this scholarship, my self-esteem was given a big boost. It made college seem a little bit more of a reality and it gave me the confidence to keep applying for other types of financial aid.
